There's a facet of applied psychology, psychological intervention, that focuses on making tweaks at a pivotal moment in order to derail, delete, or adjust a patient's mental processes.
This might have the ultimate outcome of changing a habit or behavior, adjusting an emotional response to some kind of stimuli, or evolving their mindset so they think of things differently in the future.
