Named after political scientist and professor Wallace Stanley Sayre, Sayre's Law posits that the intensity of feelings in a debate is inversely correlated with the importance or value of the issues at stake.
In other words, if we're debating relatively unimportant issues, we'll tend to get more riled up than if we're debating vitally important issues.
