A 2019 study looking at the screen time habits of college students found that student who changed the settings on their smartphones for eight to ten days so that the screen was desaturated—grayscale instead of the full-color default—spent substantially less time on their phones than those who did not make this change.

The main distinction between these two groups during that period is that the grayscale group spent a lot less time on social media and perusing the web than those in the full-color group; the former spent about 37.9 minutes less time playing on their phones than the latter, per day.
