Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt
An argumentum ad metum, which in English means, roughly, an "appeal to fear," is a type of debate-deployed fallacious argument in which someone will attempt to generate support for their position by sparking fear toward the opposition.
If you're trying to argue against a military conflict, for instance, you might remind listeners of the horrors of warfare, and if you're selling security cameras, you might barrage would-be customers with worrying crime statistics.
