In psychology, “valence” refers to a general positive or negative perception of something. That something can be a person, an idea, or the options one has when making a decision.

Our valence also encompasses the emotions we feel toward something: if we feel a positive valence toward someone, we’ll likely also experience happiness or joy in their presence…
